Moneen, The Beautiful Mistake, Boys Night Out

February 17, 2004 @ Rock Island in Denver, CO

Overall Rating: 8.0

Music Quality: 8.0

Production: 8.0

I've seen all of these bands before, so knowing that I wasn't expecting too much (new, that is). Still, all of the bands put on a stellar show, with insane energy and great performance value. Of course, I got their late cause our bus system sucks ass, and missed Boys Night Out, but I heard they rocked the house.

The Beautiful Mistake's new material got me extra excited, and though they played a really short set, they kicked ass. This was probably the best I have seen them perform, and I could tell the kids were hugely digging the new material. Jon always has had a problem projecting but this time around he was right on target, and the guitars were as full as ever. Quite possibly the most underrated band in the scene these days, The Beautiful Mistake definitely overpowered the stage with their new material.

I just realized that Moneen is another really underrated band. Why everyone hasn't heard about these energetic, crazy Canadian emo punkers is beyond me, but they will eventually catch on, no doubt. After all, when your whole band is ricocheting off the walls with intensity and pure emotion, you can't help but at least tap your foot, much less slam your body against some sweaty geek in the pit. Check these guys out, before they get big and you wish you jumped on that bandwagon!

Senses Fail, only releasing an EP recorded in a small studio, already headlining their own tour?? I found it just a little strange how bands like Moneen and The Beautiful Mistake have been around for years and are opening for them, but still I guess I'm not picking who's headlining. Buddy did his best but I could tell he just didn't have the experience to maintain a full set, including a 2-song encore. Regardless, he did do his best, and his best was damn good. The band is as professional as anyone else I've seen these days, and funny too, and while their singer (Buddy) has a little problem hitting a good majority of the notes, his charisma and obvious stage presence make up for it. Their new material sounded pretty damn compelling, and they performed all of their old material, including the "Handguns And Second Chances" 'bonus' track on their EP, "From The Depth Of Dreams."

Senses Fail is destined for hugeness, and what a great tour this is. Check it out if you get a chance, because I'm sure you'd enjoy it; it was a fun show.
