Clever lyrics and catchy hooks isn't all Matt Pond PA has to offer on their release of Several Arrows Later. It seems this album is just good music. It is not overproduced, excessively sugarcoated, or anything of the sort. It seems to have this warm, earthy type home feel to it. The well placed keys and strings in this album also prove this band has a lot of substance to it.
Several Arrows Later opens with the track "Halloween", providing those warm tones that will be oh so familiar throughout the whole album. This track offers extremely intelligent and catchy lyrics. This track is definitely a good way to start and represent an album.
The title track, "Several Arrows Later", brings another dimension to Matt Pond PA. This track starts out with a more powerful drum beat that sets the tempo for a powerful song. As most of the songs have been, this also provides lyrics that are a breath of fresh air in today’s "scene" music. This track sets itself apart from the rest of the album, but still has that Matt Pond PA sound.
The thing about "Several Arrows Later" is that there isn't really one single track I skip while listening to this album. Each song provides something I am always interested in hearing. I cannot really point out a high point and low point of the album. It is completely solid. That is truly rare and a sign of a timeless band. Matt Pond PA will be your new favorite band that your friends have never heard. These guys are on the right track. I think Matt Pond PA reflects what rock is all about, in their own ways of course.
