Initially, I found myself turned off by this band's folkish-rock approach to music. However, with their debut EP release on Drive-Thru, they show the talent necessary to hinge such a great label standing through consistently stellar guitar work and songwriting.
"Blown Away" only begins the great, soothing acoustic rock of the band. The singer's voice, although without any catchiness, seems to draw a great mood and the swirling guitar melodies and numerous rhythm changes throughout the EP show the band's excellence for musical diversity. From the grooving bass line to the similarly grooving guitar riffs in "Alley Cat," the somber vocal melodies of the singer are established and maintainted throughout. Even a song I used to hate, "Angelica" seems to draw a lot more appeal when backed up with the other songs. Now that I can easily see the band's approach, the guitar riffs and acoustic line that followed his voice that seemed confusing now all seem organized and supported by a great band.
I wish I could break the tradition, but I can only say that once again, Drive-Thru has chosen an impeccable new band to join its roster, adding the diversity it needed to grow. Get this EP if you are in the mood for some chill-rock and want to hear some genuine guitar talent and old-school songwriting.
