After what seemed like forever, Armor For Sleep's debut record finally arrived. The wait was well worth it, and the CD surpassed my expectations for the band. What I heard in the demo songs on their site was potential, and what came out was sheer brilliance.
The band's punchy, up-front guitars and vocals sound perfect, and the clean, spacey sound of the guitar hooks are evident from start to stop on the disc. Ben's consistent hook writing, showcased in songsl ike The Wanderer's Guild and Being Your Walls especially, is amazing and truly original. His voice sounds brilliant as it shimmers above the walls of guitar crunch. The basslines make the disc literally groove from note to note, and in every song the band's ability to write catchy, infectious music is demonstrated. The thing that makes Armor For Sleep a band you need to and will listen to for awhile is the dark sound the band brings about. Lyrics like "Air Conditioning, you can stay up all night," and "pull your arms up around your knees, and hide out inside your room" reflect the introverted passion behind the music, that is so real.
Truly incredible and original, but yet pleasing to fans of the conventional sound, Armor For Sleep's new CD is one everyone will like, and it didn't only satisfy my overdue cravings--it surpassed them.
