The first time I heard "Gentlemen," I wasn't hugely impressed, I must admit. It sounded almost weak. And to be honest, I'm not sure that things would have changed if I hadn't seen these guys live and really FELT that pulsating beat and hear the voice that almost dictated the lyrics instead of sung them. Still, now "Gentlemen" comes across as a thick, loud, heartfelt song that is simply ROCK with a message that becomes more and more clear and obviously prominent. I really feel like he means and feel what he is saying, which I rarely get from many bands today.
Though some of the songs may sound relatively run of the will and very choppy, almost to the point of boring, I think it's fair to blame the production on this one. Seeing these guys tear up the stage and really, really go crazy and hearing the loud, huge walls of sound and melody coming from the dueling guitars was an enormous factor in making me dig this band. And dig, I do, because these guys have an original way of evoking their lyrics, and they really have a professional, HEAVY rock and roll sound!
