Okay so I'm sorry for slacking on reviews recently, lots has been going on. Anyways last Tuesday there were a slew of amazing CD's that came out, Hey Mercedes amongst them. "Loses Control" takes on a more melodic, direct sound, whereas their last effort seemed more indie and less conventional. Loses Control aims to please their old fans but should definitely invite some new fans, especially anyone who likes Foo Fighters.
From the second the disc starts, you can tell you're listening to a different style. With a more defined chorus and melodies, the band seems tighter and more conventional than ever. Unlike their previous work, the new songs have more direction and choruses, which can be a double-edged sword. Luckily the band's dark vocal blend and blasting guitars provide a killer sound, and avoid getting into the "catchy, plain" style that a lot of poppy rock bands are pulling off these days. "Police Police Me" is perhaps my favorite track on the record, with its sonic chorus and punchy guitars.
Truly, Hey Mercedes' new disc takes on a brighter edge, with a huge Foo Fighters sound and much more developed vocal melodies and notes. If you were a fan of their old material, you might think this stuff is too straight-forward, but if you didn't like them before you are bound to now. Buy this record, seriously.
